Langer gets 5th Champions Tour win of the season

Golf Betting Lines

08/29/2010 - Snoqualmie, WA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Bernhard Langer posted a three-under 69 on Sunday, but it was enough to cruise to his fifth victory of the season at the Boeing Classic.

Langer finished the tournament at 18-under 198, which matched Loren Roberts' tournament record from last year. Langer won by three strokes at TPC Snoqualmie Ridge.

His victory parade started at the Allianz Championship in mid February, then ran through the Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am. Langer won the Senior British Open and U.S. Senior Open in back-to-back weeks and his play was so good, there was speculation Colin Montgomerie might use a captain's pick on Langer for the Ryder Cup.

Monty didn't but Langer did enough to win his fifth title of 2010 and 13th all-time on the Champions Tour.

"I won back-to-back tournaments, but not majors," Langer said in a television interview. "It's been a wonderful couple of months. What a blessing."

Nick Price closed the gap to two strokes, but his one-under 71 was only good enough for second place at minus-15.

Fred Couples, who grew up in Washington, fired a five-under 67 on Sunday to finish alone in third place at nine-under 207.

Langer began the final round with a one-shot lead over Price, but Price struggled so poorly at the start of the round that Langer built a four-shot lead after six holes despite being even for the round.

Langer birdied the seventh hole and was five clear. The 11th hole proved to be a swing hole. Price, who also birdied No. 8, birdied the par-four hole 11th, but Langer three-putted from 18 feet for a bogey. The two-shot swing drew Price within two of Langer.

The German Hall of Famer played his third shot to three feet to set up birdie at the par-five 15th. Langer was back up by three and he padded that cushion with a seven-foot birdie putt at No. 16.

Price birdied 17 to trail by three and he hit an excellent second shot to the par-five 18th. He didn't make eagle and settled for birdie.

Langer made birdie of his own to walk off with the trophy and the $270,000 first-place check.

Mike Reid (67) and Hal Sutton (70) tied for fourth place at eight-under 208, followed by Russ Cochran (66) and Keith Fergus (71), who shared sixth at minus-seven.

Last week's Tradition winner Fred Funk (70), Jeff Sluman (70), Tommy Armour III (71), Larry Mize (71) and Tom Pernice, Jr. (76) tied for eighth place at six-under 210.

NOTES: Roberts only managed an even-par 72 on Sunday and tied for 13th place at five-under par...Next week is the First Tee Open at Pebble Beach, which was won last year by Jeff Sluman.

March Madness odds and printable March Madness brackets

With the field of 64/65 set, MySportsbook.com has the Florida Gators as the 4-1 favorite to successfully defend their National Championship.  Men’s Division-1 College Basketball has not seen a team repeat as National Champions since Duke won back to back championships in ’91 & ‘92.  After losing three out of four late in the season, the Gators are full of momentum as they won their last four games by an average of 18 points.  Not surprisingly, right behind the Gators are the other three top seeds: Kansas 5-1, UNC 6-1, and Ohio State 7-1.  Many consider Kansas to be the hottest team in the country, having won 11 straight. With Kansas, it is hard to ignore all of the early exits from the “dance” in recent years.  With an impressive ACC Tournament, UNC ensured themselves the other top seed.  UNC has about as much talent as any other team in the tournament but with a team that’s best players are primarily freshman and sophomores, could youth be a concern.  Behind freshman sensation, Greg Oden, OSU will look to do what their football team failed to do just a few months earlier.  OSU seems to have peeked at the right time, as they currently have a 17 game winning streak.  Since the tournament field was expanded in 1985, there has never been an instance where all four #1 seeds advanced to the Final Four.  It is obvious that each of the top seeds have the talent to make it through to Atlanta.  But as everyone knows, when makes the NCAA Tournament so special are all of the spoilers and “Cinderella” stories that knock off the favorites on a daily basis.
